The changes were announced last yearand were made following the UK’s exit from the European Union.
Both operators were set to reintroduce charges to customers who signed contracts on or after August 11, 2021 (for Vodafone customers) and October 1, 2021 (for EE customers).
However, both operators have delayed this with Vodafone now introducing the charges at the end of this month and EE planning to introduce the charges in March.
A spokesperson for Vodafone said: “We have pushed back the introduction of roaming charges to the end of January, giving time for further testing to ensure the best possible experience for customers purchasing our £1 per day bundles.
“Until then, customers will continue to be able to roam without charges.”
EE said it delayed the reintroduction due to “technical issues” although when contacted the operator did not expand upon exactly what those issues were.
A spokesperson for the telco said: “Last year we announced that new or upgrading EE customers joining after the 7th July 2021 would see a new flat fee of £2 a day to use their plan’s data, minutes and texts allowance while roaming across 47 European destinations.
“The small daily charge is capped which removes any worry of returning home to a larger than expected bill. The charges will be introduced from 3rd March 2022 and customers will be able to choose to add a 30-day Roam Abroad Pass to their plan.
“Essential plan customers will be able to take the Pass for £10, while Smart or Full Works plans customers are able to include the same pass as part of their plan.”
Three UK also plan to reintroduce roaming charges, although they have planned to make the change in May.
O2 remains the only operator that hasn’t yet implemented charges.
