A live poll on day one of the New York event, which is ran by Capacity along with TeleGeography, found a combined 46% of enterprises said they were on the SD-WAN road (23% each) while around 14% said they had already completed a deployment.
Around 7% of respondents said they are seriously considering a deployment but have yet to get the ball rolling, while around 10% said they have yet to seriously consider SD-WAN adoption.
The event, which saw more than 250 people attend, included several live polls in which the audience answered pre-arranged questions.
Improving network performance was the primary reason for SD-WAN adoption, selected by more than half of the audience – way above the next most popular (use alternative access technologies) which was below 20%.
The growth of cyber-attacks has clearly raised concerns as “security features” was the most popular option in answer to the question “what SD-WAN service feature is important to you in selection an SD-WAN vendor”.
With 23%, this just pipped deployment model (21%), competitive service pricing and WAN optimisation (both 18%).
Carrier and network operators offering a managed service were the most popular providers of SD-WAN services, just beating SD-WAN vendors selling directly to enterprise clients. But most said they still anticipate having MPLS services in most, if not all, of their sites in their WAN over the next year.
The next WAN Summit will be held in Frankfurt at the end of June. To find out more CLICK HERE
