Crystal Telecom appoints new CEO

Rwanda’s Crystal Telecom, a special purpose vehicle that owns 20% of MTN Rwanda, has named Iza Irame as its new CEO, following the departure of Vincent Gatete.

Irame, who has over ten years’ experience in senior management, had been the chief corporate officer of Crystal Ventures since May 2016 and was previously the chief executive officer of African Alliance Rwanda for four years. Gatete has recently moved to Bank of Kigali as Chief Commercial Officer, according to a statement from the Crystal Ventures subsidiary.

“During her tenure she led diverse corporate finance transactions in the Rwandan Market and has been instrumental in growing the local Capital Market industry. She was the first chairperson of the Rwanda Stockbrokers Association,” the statement said.

She currently serves as a Non-Executive Director on various boards including the Rwanda Stock Exchange, African Alliance Rwanda, Zigama CSS and Rwanda Teaching University Hospitals.

James Gatera, chairman of Crystal Telecom, said: "Crystal Telecom set precedence for companies in the private sector to seek funding from the capital markets and investors gained from two dividend payouts within 12 months of listing. We thank Vincent for the good work he has done during his time at Crystal Telecom. We also welcome Iza who will continue to serve the company diligently given her vast experience."
