NTT Com Japan-US route hits 1Tbps

NTT Communications has revealed that the section of its global IP network between Japan and the US exceeded 1Tbps of capacity in September.

This is said to be the first time a network between the two countries has hit such a speed, and the expanded capacity will support the expected double in demand for high speed internet services over the next two years.

The company has noted an increase in music and video streaming, as well as high-resolution images and 4K data, which is boosting these capacity needs.

NTT Com’s global IP network is among the world’s largest IP backbones and the company has been investing in a number of related technologies such as 100 Gigabit Ethernet.
