PCCS cable reaches Puerto Rico

Telefonica has confirmed to Capacity that the PCCS subsea cable, which aims to link Jacksonville in Florida to Manta in Ecuador, has landed in Isla Verde beach in Puerto Rico.

The 6000km system is due to become operational in July, connecting the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico¸ Aruba, Curacao, Maria Chiquita and Balboa in Panama and Cartagena in Colombia.

It is backed by a consortium of Telefonica, Cable & Wireless Communications, Setar, Telconet and United Telecommunication Services (UTS, and is expected to support the growing demand for connectivity across the Americas.

“This significantly enhances Telefonica’s connectivity and broadband services availability for online content in the region. Furthermore, the PCCS will be interconnected with our extensive SAm-1 cable strengthening our commitment as one of the main providers in the Americas,” a Telefonica spokesperson told Capacity
