The South Atlantic Cable System (SACS) will connect Angola and Brazil with 4 fibre pair cable and an initial design capacity of 40Tbps.
It will land at a new cable landing station in Sangano, Angola, and at a data centre in Fortaleza, Brazil, which will also be built by Angola Cables.
The cable will also connect on to the US through the Cable of the Americas (COTA), which will connect Santos and Fortaleza in Brazil to Miami in the US.
Total investment for SACS is estimated to be approximately $160 million.
“This new submarine cable, together with our other projects, will help to improve connectivity between Angola and Africa to Latin and North America. We will continue to develop our internet highways to enable our telecoms, ISP and enterprise customers to differentiate themselves in today's competitive and highly-evolving African marketplace,” said António Nunes, CEO, Angola Cables.
Construction of the cable is expected to begin before the end of the year, with the project scheduled for operation in Q4 2016.
