The company said that it plans to expand the fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) coverage to 12.5 million locations by the middle of 2019.
“While other providers have slowed deployment, we’ll continue to expand access to our ultra-fast internet to more customers, so they can more quickly connect to the things they love online,” said Eric Boyer, AT&T’s senior vice president for wireless and wired product marketing.
The eight new markets for FTTH coverage are Dayton, Ohio; Macon, Georgia; Madison, Wisconsin; Monterey-Salinas, California; Savannah, Georgia; South Bend, Indiana; Springfield, Missouri; and Western Michigan.
The announcement came on the same day that AT&T launched its FTTH services – which is offers under the “100% Fiber” brand – in Oakland, California. The roll-out started in Austin, Texas, four years ago.
