Today’s announcement is a “further crucial step”, the company said, in TAG’s strategy of providing smart meter equipment in Austria, following the launch of its initial service, Österreich Zähler, last September.
Based on the modular design of Österreich Zähler, the solution is designed to support both 4G LTE and GPRS/2G technologies.
It has been developed jointly with partners Kaifa and ZTE, and Bernd Liebscher, managing director at Telekom Austria Group M2M, said that smart meters based on mobile technology do not need any additional infrastructure and are therefore the ideal solution for a targeted roll-out across the country.
“With the 4G LTE communication module, we are able to increase the reach of smart meters, to include previously difficult locations,” he said.
“Combined with the company’s high-security M2M communications services based on Austria’s best network, Österreich Zähler offers a flexible, cost-effective and future-proof solution for domestic power grid operators.”
In January this year, TAG signed an M2M agreement with European automative retailer Porsche Holding Salzburg.
