Telekom Austria subsidiary acquires 4G spectrum in Macedonia
11 July 2013 |
The Macedonian subsidiary of Telekom Austria Group, Vip Operator, acquired 4G spectrum in the country’s spectrum auction yesterday for a total of €10.5million.
The frequencies, which are in the 800MHz and 1800 MHz band, will be used to support the roll out of LTE services to its customers. The licence will be valid for a period of 20 years.
Vip was one of three successful bidders in the auction, with Macedonia’s two other incumbent mobile operators, T-Mobile and ONE, also reported to acquire spectrum.
Hannes Ametsreiter, CEO of Telekom Austria Group, said: “The provision of 4G/LTE services is an important step for the ongoing further development of our markets. This allows us to offer our customers the latest technologies and meet all multimedia requirements.”
This latest move with its Macedonian subsidiary follows Telekom’s acquisition of three cable network providers in Croatia last month.
