Under the terms of the agreement, which has the potential to be extended for a further 5 years, effective immediately, Ufinet will provide Masmovil will direct access and capacity to its fibre network in more than 300 exchanges in Spain.
Masmovil said that the decision aligns itself with the increased growth the company has been experiencing as of late as well as in anticipation of future growth. The contract gives Masmovil unlimited bandwidth capabilities to enable optimal speeds and latencies as well as exclusive long-term use of its fibre and Ufinet equipment.
"With the new fibre connectivity agreement with Ufinet, Masmovil will be able to continue offering the best quality of service to continue having the most satisfied customers of the market," said Meinrad Spenger, CEO of Masmovil.
As a result of the deal Masmovil says it is laying the foundation for quick and efficient access to Telefónica's fibre infrastructure - VULA or NEBA. The company is also able to offer its convergent fibre services to its customers through its brands: Yoigo, Masmovil and Pepephone.
Additionally the deal is set to offer a number of financial benefits as well. An estimated capex and opes savings of at least 50% is set to be achieved by partnering with Ufinet rather than Masmovil developing and building a stand-alone offering of its own.
Eduardo Taulet, executive president of Ufinet, added: "We are going to make an effort so that Masmovil customers has a different service experience. The agreement with Masmovil demonstrates the breadth of Ufinet opportunities to reach beneficial agreements with players in the telco sector in Spain ".
No financial details of the agreement was given and Ufinet will continue to maintain and manage the fibre network.
