Green data centre innovation from Athens

Data centre firm Lamda Hellix has been recognised for its Athens, Greece campus with a Bravo Sustainability award for “International Innovation in Green Technology”.

The gong was awarded by the Bravo Initiative, which highlights sustainable development programs that are active cells of society, aiming to deliver “a better future for all”.

Lamda Hellix said its data centre, which consists of Athens-1 and Athens-2 data centres, was built to respond to increased demand for data centre capacity in the Greek market, whilst also minimising its environmental footprint.

Specific and coordinated actions for the energy upgrade of the infrastructure has been implemented that has led to the certification of the campus with LEED v4 BD+C (Gold certification), for the design and fabrication of energy efficient data centre installations.

It also features virtualised servers which offer lower energy consumption, innovative ventilation and air conditioning systems, and tools to monitor and record energy consumption. This means the Athens Campus can recycle up to 70% of used materials, while permanent water consumption meters have also been implemented.
