Tigo Paraguay to launch 4G next month

Tigo Paraguay plans to launch its 4G network over AWS frequencies in 24 cities on April 7, 2016.

Mauricio Ramos, CEO of the Millicom Group, said at a recent press conference that the company plans to invest $2.5 billion over the next four years in Paraguay to boost connectivity for mobile and cable subscribers, including its various pay-TV operations.

Millicom aims to have 4G coverage for 40% of the population by the end of this year. By 2020, the plans are to have 250 districts in the country 4G-enabled, equating to 66% of the population, with an additional 29% of the population connected to 2G or 3G.

According to a La Nacion interview, the network is to be rolled out across the following locations: Asuncion, Caacupe, Caaguazu, Capiata, Ciudad del Este, Concepcion, Coronel Oviedo, Encarnacion, Fernando de la Mora, Hernandarias, Lambare, Luque, Mariano Roque Alonso, Nemby, Pedro Juan Caballero, Pilar, President Franco, Salto del Guaira, San Bernardino, San Estanislao, San Lorenzo, Santa Rita, Villa Elisa, and Villarrica.

Ramos revealed that the official launch for Tigo would be on April 7, 2016.
