Mexico estimated to raise $2.5 billion in auction

Mexico’s telecoms regulator said it expects to raise about $2.5 billion (45 billion pesos) from its recent sale of 80MHz of spectrum over a 15-year licence term.

The auction of 80MHz of spectrum in the 1710-1780MHz and 2110-2180MHz bands started on February 15, 2016. Results of the auction will be disclosed within 10 business days, the Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) said on Thursday.

Of the spectrum to be sold, 30MHz was for AWS-1 bands (1710-1725MHz/2110-2125MHz) and the remaining 50MHz was for AWS-3 bands (1755-1780MHz/2155-2180MHz).

American Movil’s Telcel submitted bids worth 2.1 billion pesos for 2x10MHZ of AWS-1 spectrum and 2x20MHz of AWS-3 spectrum while AT&T bidded 1.03 billion pesos for 2x10MHz of AWS-1 spectrum.
