AWS Direct Connect available in Equinix Osaka IBX
Equinix has revealed the availability of Amazon Web Services (AWS) Direct Connect in Equinix’s Osaka International Business Exchange (IBX) data centre (OS1).
AWS Direct Connect will enable countries in Asia to connect their privately-owned and managed infrastructure directly to AWS via a private connection to the AWS Cloud. This is designed to reduce cost, increase throughput and deliver a more consistent application performance.
The Osaka facility is the second in Japan to offer AWS Direct Connect, bringing the total number worldwide to nine, with four of those in Asia-Pacific.
“Our goal at Equinix is to help our enterprise customers realise the full benefits of the cloud – without worrying about application latency of cost issues,” said Samuel Lee, president of Asia-Pacific at Equinix.
“AWS Direct Connect makes it easy for customers to establish a dedicated network connection from Equinix to AWS.”
A forecast from IDC estimates that the cloud sector in Asia-Pacific will grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 26.5%.
This growth is prompting many companies to look at the deployment of hybrid clouds to reap the scalability and cost benefits of the cloud, while maintaining the security and control of on premise infrastructure.
Hiroshi Go, senior director, service platform development, cloud services division at Hitachi, said the company was looking forward to the availability of AWS Direct in OS1.
“To ensure the stable and consistent quality for end-users, integrating the network infrastructure is one of the most important responsibilities for data center and cloud service providers,” Go said.
“At Hitachi, we have our network node in Equinix OS1, which offers excellent connectivity to the Internet backbone. AWS in OS1 will help us meet ongoing customer demands, as well as create new business opportunities.”
Also this week, Equinix announced its collaboration with subsea network solution provider AquaComms for the deployment of America Europe Connect (AEConnect).
