The aim of the collaboration is to enable Turkey to become a 5G technologies producing country, said the companies. The two companies will work together on a national roadmap in 5G technologies and participate jointly in both domestic and global markets.
“We have achieved establishing the strongest 3G technologies infrastructure not only in Turkey, but also in the world,” said Kaan Terzioglu, CEO of Turkcell. “Turkcell is committed to maintaining its technology leadership in introducing the latest mobile communication technologies to Turkey in 5G.”
“We are excited to be working with Aselsan, which is as committed to innovation and technology as Turkcell. With this agreement – the first step of a long-term cooperation – we believe that we will achieve our goal of positioning our country as a global hub of 5G development,” he added.
In May 2015 the Turkish government postponed its 4G spectrum auction to August 26 2015, following discussions with the country's operators. Terzioglu has called for its government to strengthen Turkey’s digital infrastructure as well as implement a successful rollout of 4G.
