E-Plus selects NSN for network security

Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN) has signed a deal with E-Plus to protect the German mobile operator’s LTE network from security threats.

NSN will reportedly deploy its 3GPP-compliant security solution across E-Plus’s 4G LTE network, to prevent unauthorised access and manipulation and ensure a safe mobile broadband experience for E-Plus customers.

LTE security is a growing concern for operators as they move to all-IP networks and NSN’s system is designed to provide an end-to-end solution.

Gerhard Lüdtke, director of access networks at E-Plus, said: “At E-Plus, we are deeply and fully committed to ensuring a secure telecommunications network environment for our subscribers.

“Thanks to NSN’s complete security solution for LTE, our subscribers will enjoy their mobile broadband free of the threat of fraud or espionage of personal data.”

Terms of the agreement state that NSN will deliver its radio access security solution to ensure that only operator-authorised base stations can access the network.

The security agreement with NSN extends the long-term relationship between the two companies, who partnered in February this year for the roll-out of E-Plus’s LTE network in Germany.

“We are pleased to strengthen our excellent customer relationship with E-Plus by implementing our advanced security solution, which offers comprehensive protection combined with high performance and availability,” said Ingo Goldenberg, account director at NSN.

E-Plus, a wholly owned subsidiary of Dutch operator KPN, is presently due to be acquired by Telefónica, pending approval from the European Commission.
