Vodafone to develop 4G in Greece

Vodafone will speed up the development of 4G in Greece as part of its network investment across Europe.

The company’s group CEO Vittorio Colao said today that Vodafone is committed to Greece, following his meeting with the country’s Prime Minister Antonis Samaras.

“Vodafone is about to accelerate investment in 4G technology in the country,” Colao said.

Vodafone is intending to increase capital spend by £6 billion over three financial years, to improve network quality in European countries and emerging markets under its “Project Spring” plan.

“This is a sign of confidence in the digital world and in Greece and I'm very pleased with the early results and of [the] trust that Vodafone customers are expressing in this strategy," Colao added.

Vodafone operates as Greece’s second-biggest operator, behind Deutsche Telekom-owned Cosmote.

Revenues in the mobile space have fallen in Greece as a result of the country’s poor economy, increasing competition and regulatory pressure on prices.

Last week, Colao confirmed the company’s plans to increase its network spend in Italy.
