Telenor Group appoints Myanmar CEO

Norway’s Telenor Group has appointed Petter Furberg as CEO of Telenor Myanmar effective of formal approval from the country’s authorities.

Following last month’s success in Myanmar’s highly anticipated spectrum auction, Furberg will take control of Telenor’s operations in the country which is expected to include the launch of 3G services next year.

Furberg leaves his position as CFO for Thai operator dtac, of which Telenor is a majority shareholder, and will be responsible for bringing Myanmar up to speed with a secure and efficient telecommunications network.

“The executive management team that has been put in place combines a vast amount of global industry experience with a deep understanding of Asia and I am confident that we will fulfil our promise of bringing high quality, accessible and affordable mobile services to people throughout Myanmar,” Furberg said.

"One of Telenor's core principles is to build operations with a strong 'people-centric' culture because we believe the quality of our people, their dedication to our company and what we stand for are the foundations of Telenor's success.”

Myanmar has attracted global attention over the last 12 months with Ooredoo named as the second spectrum licence holder in the country and Orange, despite losing out on a licence, reiterating its commitment to the country earlier this year.
