NTT DoCoMo connects Mt. Fuji to LTE

NTT DoCoMo is delivering LTE services in the Mount Fuji region, Japan.

The services are reportedly available throughout the World Heritage site, including the trail entrances and exits, all climbing routes, mountainside cabins and Mount Fuji’s 3,776 metre summit.

NTT DoCoMo is only running the services until the end of the climbing season in late August, alongside its existing 3G service in the region.

The 3G service from NTT DoCoMo first became available in 2005, and followed the region’s initial 2G connectivity in 1999.

DoCoMo launched an LTE base station in Japan earlier this year, and is looking to broaden its LTE reach across Japan, focussing on a higher quality service from the network.
