Telenor appoints new head of digital services

Norway’s Telenor Group has appointed a new EVP and head of digital services.

Rolv-Erik Spilling will take on the role immediately having previously served as the deputy head of digital services at the carrier.

Telenor’s digital services business is specifically focussed on internet services that Telenor and its partners will deliver globally.

The carrier said that Spilling’s appointment will ensure the continuation of innovation activities in the digital services area.

“Rolv-Erik Spilling has held many key positions in all parts of our value chain. His broad experience makes him an ideal candidate for developing new services, and combining traditional telecommunications services with the new and open internet technologies. I am very pleased that he has accepted this responsibility and I expect great performances from him and the rest of the digital services team going forward,” said Jon Fredrik Baksaas, CEO and president of the Telenor Group.

Spilling’s past experience includes various positions at Telenor Norway, including, CMO, CTO and head of services, IT and technology. He first joined Telenor in 2000 and was appointed deputy head of Telenor Digital Services in September 2011.

The carrier also announced that Morten Karlsen Sorby, EVP and head of group strategy and regulatory affairs, has been appointed chairman of both Telenor Broadcast and Telenor Media and Content Services (TMCS) units.

Sorby is the present chairman of Telenor Norway and has also headed Telenor Group industrialisation efforts and the carrier’s Nordic operations.
