Etisalat signs deal with Microsoft

Etisalat has signed an agreement with Microsoft designed to improve the delivery of content and services from Microsoft’s network via the UAE operator’s Smart Hub.

Etisalat is hoping the move will help improve download time and reduce latency and delay for its customers in the UAE and across the Middle East. The company’s EVP for carrier and wholesale, Ali Amiri, said it has invested in developing the UAE as a regional “internet hub”, which hosts the “world’s largest content providers and offers high-speed and reliable connectivity for the largest operators in the Middle East, Asia and Africa”.

“Our commitment is exercised end-to-end throughout our network – from the access device, which our customers see every day, through to the critically important international connectivity and infrastructure that lie behind the scenes,” he added.

Etisalat’s Smart Hub was launched earlier this month with the aim of allowing all parties with an interest in the market to have access to key technologies and services to allow for more effective distribution of content. It is also looking to facilitate partnership between operators and content providers as they address the needs of regional consumers. For information click here.

The company also signed an MoU yesterday with the global ICT services and solution provider Dimension Data. Under the agreement, both companies will collaborate to identify and develop managed services and advanced ICT services for Etisalat’s business customers.

“This is a strategic partnership for Etisalat and we see great potential in delivering joint solutions around managed services that can drive efficiencies within enterprises. Given our respective strengths, we will be introducing a range of innovative solutions that will provide a differentiated user experience to its customers while reducing complexity and cost,” said Abdulla Hashim, SVP of ICT at Etisalat.
