Liquid Telecom names former Airtel chief Youssefi as Kenya CEO

Liquid Telecom has appointed former Airtel Kenya CEO Adil Youssefi as the new chief executive officer of its Kenyan arm.

Youssefi replaces Ben Roberts, who will now focus more on his role as group chief technology officer for Liquid Telecom. He will also become chairman of the African operator’s Kenyan unit.

Youssefi has headed up Airtel’s Kenya division for the last three years, having joined from Millicom group, where he worked across various operations in Sri Lanka, Chad, and final Ghana, where he served as chief executive in 2012.

He brings with him over 15 years’ worth of experience in senior management roles across Africa, Asia and Europe.

Following the acquisition of Kenya Data Networks in 2013, Liquid Telecom Kenya has laid 5,000km of fibre network across Kenya, with 800km laid in 2016. It has connected 41 of the 47 counties to high speed internet, and rolled out successive rounds of new technology, the operator said.

“Adil brings to Liquid Telecom Kenya his excellent track record of strong leadership, as well as his unique and incredible ability to understand the customers and the market in a way that sees him translate vision into winning strategy,” said Nic Rudnick, CEO of the Liquid Telecom Group.
