Chinese technology firm Huawei is set to open its second data centre hub in Chile at the end of the year in a bid to promote the South American country as a digital hub in Latin America.

The company’s new data centre will be located in the metropolitan region of capital Santiago and will be operational by the end of 2020.

This development will come roughly one year after the company opened its first data centre in the Chilean capital.

"We are very happy to be launching our second data centre in the country," said Jason Jin, president of Huawei Cloud & AI in Chile.

"This will bring many benefits to our users. It will help to provide greater security in case of a catastrophe and also allow Chile to prepare for the technological challenges to come in the future.”

Huawei Cloud will be the only cloud implementing Artificial Intelligence (AI) and big data services in Chile, making it possible for local customer data to be analysed more quickly through AI clustering, according to the company.

The company added that the pandemic has led to an increase in the use of cloud services in the areas of healthcare, retail sales and home entertainment.

It was announced in June last year that Huawei chose Chile for the creation of a data centre in the Latin American region. The facility was already opened on August 29, 2019.

Huawei Cloud boasts that it will be the first international public cloud platform to be established in Chile, providing a localised, low-latency cloud service for our country and other Latin American nations that is accessible globally.

Elsewhere, Huawei announced its all-scenario intelligent connectivity solutions for technology, network, and industry scenarios.

These solutions will help Huawei deliver intelligent connectivity that is characterized by ubiquitous gigabit, deterministic experience, and hyper-automation in order to build industry Intelligent Twins.

Huawei also launched autonomous driving network (ADN) solutions for enterprises, propelling enterprise networks into the ADN era and accelerating the intelligent upgrades of industries.
