The move follows a deal announced earlier in the week that IIiad was acquiring the assets that CK Hutchison and VimpelCom were divesting as a result of their Italian merger.
Fastweb said it had submitted its plan to establish a “fourth fully infrastructure operator” in Italy which it deemed suitable to promotion competition and the digital development of the country.
“We hope that Iliad’s proposal can guarantee the same level of investment and development and we ask that it is submitted to consultation of the market by the Commission,” said the company.
