ITW EXCLUSIVE: PCCW Global and Etisalat sign voice agreement

PCCW Global and Etisalat have announced a group framework agreement for voice interconnection (GFA) at ITW 2014.

The agreement will allow for voice interconnection through PCCW Global’s international IPX network to provide end-to-end delivery of voice and mobile data services. The agreement extends to more than 50 destinations over a managed IP network, across the largest IP backbone in the region.

As part of the framework, Etisalat will have direct access to PCCW Global routes in its operating countries around the world. The partnership will run via an extensive transmission network to combine MPLS, IPL, terrestrial and satellite links through PCCW Global's 50-plus IPX interconnections.

Emmanuel Bain, PCCW Global’s VP for voice services in the Middle East and Africa, said the agreement demonstrates an added focus for the company in developing its solutions across the world.

“This agreement will reinforce our already-strong relations with Etisalat by putting more focus on Etisalat’s African and Asian operations, while demonstrating our determination to turn customers’ business goals into reality through communications technology,” he said. “In this regard, our IPX platform enables development and global delivery of new generation IP-based services such as our HD video calling service, with guaranteed levels of interoperability.”

Both companies’ operations will now also benefit from a solution that features end-to-end compression and regional switching, dedicated to keeping regional traffic within the region.

In a statement, Etisalat said increased collaboration between the companies and expanding its network reach in co-operation with PCCW Global was increasing the benefits of its network to its customers.

“As a leading regional carrier and the fastest-growing telecoms operator in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, Etisalat is focussed on bringing the best connectivity and quality to our customers wherever they may be,” said Etisalat.

This company added that agreement with PCCW Global was part of a continued effort to enhance its partnership model and enter regions where it had small and medium-sized operations. “This helps ensure that our customers benefit from global connectivity and experience the best services that they have come to expect from us,” said the company.

PCCW Global added that it will also benefit from Etisalat’s affiliate networks and an extensive list of MNOs that partner with the company.

“PCCW Global serves MNOs with the genuine end-to-end value of IPX over a private and managed IP network, unlike some carriers which use internet or international long-distance links to access IPX platforms,” said Bain.

Etisalat further opened the door for more collaboration in the marketplace to help enhance innovation.
