Winterson joined Equinix in 2007 when it acquired IXEurope, where he was part of the start-up management team. In the years since he has held the positions of VP of marketing and VP of sales. Currently MD of Equinix (Services), he built the EMEA business team to align with the strategy, services and innovation division, and focusses on digital services for existing enterprise and service provider customers.
Prior to these roles, Winterson worked with two other technology start-ups in Europe that were eventually sold to companies in the US and Japan.
Commenting on his EUDCA chairmanship, Winterson said: “It is my honour to lead the EUDCA at a time when the changes and positive impacts we make within the data centre industry reverberate to a far wider audience. I extend a warm welcome to each Board Member. Today, the industry faces huge challenges, not the least of which is addressing and mitigating its effects on climate change.
"The EUDCA will be at the forefront of shaping policy within Europe, building on its previous achievements. As a Board, we will actively collaborate to achieve the best and most effective path to success,” he added.
The appointment was confirmed alongside the 2021 board of directors, meaning Winterson will be supported by:
Laurens van Reijen, LCL Data Centers Treasurer
Alex Rabbetts, Corozon Consulting Managing Director
Lex Coors, Interxion Chair of the Policy Committee
Andrew Harrison, Arup Chair of the Technical Committee
Matthew Baynes, Schneider Electric NTA Liaison
Matt Pullen, CyrusOne Board Member of the CNDCP
Philip Low, Headwind Consultants Board Member
Earlier this year, EUDCA created the Climate Neutral Data Centre Pact.
