EdgeConneX has appointed industry veteran Kelvin Fong as managing director of its Asia-Pacific business, where it has also established a new regional headquarters in Singapore.

Fong, who has 20 years of experience in data centre development, operations and management in Asia, will lead EdgeConneX’s expansion initiatives in the region. There, the firm plans to underpin its growth with the support of the AdaniConneX joint venture it formed in India earlier this year and its parent, global fund EQT Infrastructure.

This also comes just after the parent company announced that its EQ Infrastructure V fund would co-invest in EdgeConneX with its IV fund, which acquired the edge data centre firm last year.

Fong was most recently managing director of Asian real-estate firm CapitaLand, where he developed new business units in Singapore, China and India. Other earlier roles include managing director at data centre player Global Switch for Hong Kong, Singapore and China, and executive director at regional data centre operator Asia Tone.

Randy Brouckman, CEO of EdgeConneX, emphasised the importance of having a local presence and team to understand and support specific needs as customers increasingly seek data centre services in Asia. “The hiring of a proven industry and regional specialist, Kelvin Fong, who will lead a broad team from our new Singapore-based headquarters, is vital as we grow our presence throughout the Asia-Pac region,” he said.

EdgeConneX hopes to capitalise on the significant opportunities created by surging growth in the region as a result of the digital transformation and cloud adoption.

“Now is the time to be at the forefront of edge and hyperscale data centre development and deployment in this growing technological hotspot of the world,” said Fong.
