China dominates broadband subscriptions

China maintains its global dominance in the uptake of broadband technologies, with 34.85 million more subscribers than the US, according to Point Topic.

In Q2 2010, China added 5.47 million broadband subscribers, making it the only country to add over a million subscribers during this period. The US added the second highest number, gaining 842,000 subscribers, while India moved into third place with 677,000 subscribers. China holds the number one position in terms of total broadband subscribers, with 120.6 million or 24.2% of all users. With a 4.7% increase on the previous quarter from 115.12 million, Chinese subscribers are growing more quickly than in any other country. The number of broadband subscribers in the US grew by less than 1% during the same period.

China boasts the largest DSL market with over 95 million subscribers, amounting to 29.7% of worldwide users.
