The amount of IP-based video traffic is increasing worldwide and the Velocix CDN solution is expected to provide several benefits for operators, including innovative virtualisation and closer integration with IP infrastructure to allow for the faster adoption of cloud networking.
“Video represents the most traffic on a service provider’s network,” said Paul Larbey, head of Alcatel-Lucent’s IP Video business. “Applying the principles of virtualisation to CDNs is about giving service providers greater control over that traffic and subsequently providing a better experience to customers.”
The solution joins Alcatel-Lucent’s network functions virtualisation (NFV) portfolio announced earlier this year, and is being used by Telus, Oi and Time Warner Cable.
