Seaborn Networks has added former Yahoo director Mehmet Akcin to its board of advisors to work on a variety of strategic, commercial and technical opportunities.

Akcin spent more than 15 years in a variety of roles at Microsoft, where he established six patents as director in the Global Network Acquisition Group, and as chief engineer at the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).

His most recent roles was as senior director of global infrastructure planning at Oath, which was Yahoo until it was acquired by Verizon last year – a role he held for over two and a half years.

Akcin’s areas of expertise include subsea cable systems, IP backbones, DNS, network security, and content delivery networks, Seaborn said.

Akcin commented, "I look forward to working with Seaborn's management team on a variety of strategic, commercial and technical opportunities."

Seaborn has recently made a number of additions to its leadership team and its advisory base, with David Zimmer joining as its new chief sales officer and Jim Olson as its new vice president of corporate development in May.

The company launched Seabras-1, connecting Brazil to New York, in September 2017 and is also working on a new cable From Brazil to Argentina.

"We are very pleased to add Mehmet to our Board of Advisors," said Larry Schwartz, Chairman & CEO of Seaborn. "He is a distinguished engineer with extensive experience in building massive scale networks around the world."
