Deutsche Telekom has launched a public cloud platform in Germany targeting European enterprises.
Open Telekom Cloud is said to offer enterprises an on-demand, pay-as-you-go cloud service. Hardware and software for the platform has been provided by Huawei.
“We are adding a new, transformational cloud offering to our existing portfolio of cloud services,” said Deutsche Telekom CEO Tim Höttges. “For our business customers in Europe this is an important new service to support their digitization, and a critical milestone for us in our ambition to be the leading provider of cloud services in Europe.”
The platforms uses open stack-based infrastructure-as-a-service, and is powered by ICT from Huawei and operated by T-Systems, the enterprise-focused subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom.
It provides computing, storage, network components and other services, and Deutsche Telekom hopes the offering will give it a strong foothold in a market segment largely dominated by US cloud services providers.
The public cloud solution will be based in a German data centre, which according to Pierre Audoin Consultants (PAC), is attractive to many customers in Germany. “The combination of a competitive service and German legal security represents a unique selling point right now.” Andreas Zilch, SVP, user business & lead advisor, PAC Germany.
