AtlasEdge moves in next to VMO2 backbone

AtlasEdge has become the first international data-centre player to invest in the northern English city of Leeds, after it acquired Cornelius House for an undisclosed sum.

On a mission to "create Europe’s leading edge platform", the acquisition gives AtlasEdge proximity to VMO2’s backbone location.

In total the site is connected to seven networks and will be developed by AtlasEdge into a regional aggregation hub to meet growing demand at the edge of the network. The firm said the site has "significant existing connectivity" and that there is opportunity for future expansion.

“We are very pleased to have acquired this data centre, adding an important location to our portfolio in the UK” said Giuliano Di Vitantonio, CEO, AtlasEdge.

“The Leeds site is uniquely positioned to act as a regional aggregation hub and will ensure AtlasEdge’s distributed and highly connected footprint can support the next wave of growth in digital infrastructure for the surrounding area.”

The building is already the largest purpose-built data centre in Leeds and was purchased from Hardy Fisher Services, itself owned by Sostratus Capital LLP.

“AtlasEdge is a very attractive buyer for us - their proposition is compelling and timely”, commented Jason Beresford, founding partner and chief executive, Sostratus Capital LLP.

“It is fantastic for AtlasEdge to be investing in Leeds and, as the first international data-centre player to do so, we believe they are ahead of the game. Being able to partner with AtlasEdge provides us and our customers the edge services we need to deliver our ambitious business outcomes. We are looking forward to further developing this relationship as both the market and demand continues to grow”.

This latest acquisition comes hot off the heels of the 12 data centres AtlasEdge acquired from Colt Data Centre Services (DCS) – also for an undisclosed sum – back in November.
