Infovista is to sell its Ipanema SD-WAN business to Extreme Networks for an undisclosed sum.

Although yet to receive regulatory approval, the deal would see Extreme Networks expand on its ExtremeCloud portfolio with new cloud-managed SD-WAN and security offerings.

Infovista acquired Ipanema Technologies in 2015.

Writing about the intent to acquire, Extreme Networks' president and CEO Ed Meyercord, said: "The way people work, connect, and interact has become more fluid and highly distributed, further extending the edge of the network and in turn creating the Infinite Enterprise. Extreme’s solutions power the Infinite Enterprise by leveraging a scalable cloud infrastructure to extend the connectivity required to power consumer-centric experiences anywhere and everywhere.

"Ipanema’s cloud-managed solution automatically and dynamically adjusts application traffic flows based on real-time network conditions, which increases performance and improves quality of experience for end-users and delivers savings for the business," Meyercord added.

He said the plan it so build on these capabilities to establish an "infinitely distributed (SD-WAN) and secure solution within the ExtremeCloud portfolio".

He said the added flexibility, capability, and security when connecting locations, applications, and devices, "will enable us to provide the best possible experience to you and to your customers, wherever you are in your journey toward the Infinite Enterprise."

Extreme Networks has more than 50,000 customers globally across multiple industries.

José Duarte (pictured), CEO of Infovista said: “In dynamic and competitive networking and security markets, our Ipanema SD-WAN business has recently accelerated its expansion by acquiring and migrating customers, demonstrating the relevance of its unique cloud-native SD-WAN strategy. The planned acquisition will make this business thrive further.

“With this agreement, we are close to reaching another milestone in the execution of our strategy to make Infovista a global market leader in 5G and next-generation networks, focused on the growing network lifecycle automation requirements of our CSP and large enterprise customers.”

In 2019, Extreme Networks bought cloud company Aerohive for $272 million and earlier this year added a new regional data centre in London.
