All change at Zayo as new exec line-up named

Zayo Group Holdings has named its new company president, chief of operations, chief product and technology officer and chief legal officer.

Commenting on the appointments, CEO Steve Smith (pictured) said: “We are at a turning point in our industry, as the changing macro environment is boosting demand for bandwidth and connectivity,”

“At the same time, a new chapter has started at Zayo. With these important leadership appointments, we believe we are well-positioned to provide best-in-class solutions to our customers so that they can harness the significant potential of the evolving digital infrastructure ecosystem.”

Verizon's Andrés Irlando takes on the role of president, following 15 years with the US telco in a variety of leadership roles. Irlando most recently served as Verizon's senior vice president and president of public sector – succeeded by Jennifer Chronis – as well as Verizon Connect within Verizon Business.

Zayo said his "deep experience in enterprise telecommunications and leading globally distributed teams at scale make him uniquely suited to lead Zayo’s commercial organisation through its next chapter of growth".

In the role of chief of operations, Marty Snella will draw on more than 35 years of experience in the telecommunication, information technology and cable television industries. He was previously CEO of Denovo Ventures and has held executive positions at ICG Communications, Expanets, Qwest Cyber Solutions, Level 3 Communications and AT&T Broadband.

Marty re-joined Zayo in September las year after previously serving as CTO and CIO from 2008 to 2014. In his new role, he will focus on service delivery and network initiatives to accelerate growth.

Brian Lillie has been named chief product and technology officer and will draw on his expertise in infrastructure, security, data centre operations and global product portfolios.

Brian spent more than 10 years at Equinix, where he helped scale the company's revenue from $900 million to more than $5 billion. During his tenure, Brian he as chief product officer, chief customer officer, EVP of technology and chief information officer.

Prior to Equinix, Brian held several executive roles at VeriSign, including vice president of global information systems and vice president of global sales operations.

Mike Mooney – lead attorney during Zayo’s $14.3 billion take private transaction – has been appointed chief legal officer. Specialised in  &A, commercial contracting, risk management and regulatory strategy, he joined Zayo in 2018 as general counsel.

Prior to Zayo, Mike held several senior leadership roles in Level 3 Communications’ legal department, including SVP and general counsel, regulatory strategy and policy.

Irlando, Snella, Lillie and Mooney are joined on the executive team by Julie Tschida Brown, chief people and culture officer, Matt Steinfort, CFO and Jesper Aagaard, president, Europe.
