Cloud messaging and communications firm Twilio has named former Amazon, Google and Microsoft executive Chee Chew as its new chief product officer.

Chew brings more than 25 years of experience across technology and communications, having previously served as vice president of consumer engagement at Amazon. In this role, he was responsible for its core shopping experience both on the web and through mobile apps.

Prior to this Chew worked as vice president of engineering at Google, where he looked after the web giant’s real time communications offerings, such as Google Voice and Google Hangouts. He spent more than 14 years at Microsoft serving across several roles, and has also worked for HP.

“As an engineer by trade, I’m extremely passionate about helping Twilio continue to build APIs and SDKs that will empower developers,” said Chew. “I’m excited to join Twilio and help developers and innovative businesses around the world build contextual and intelligent communications that will reinvent how companies engage with their customers.”

In his new role, Chew will be tasked with helping Twilio develop its APIs and SDKs for its range of partners, which cover the voice, text and video communications spheres. He will join Twilio’s executive management team, reporting directly to co-founder and CEO John Lawson.

Lawson said: ““Chee brings an incredibly unique combination of skills and experiences to Twilio — from running customer engagement for the world’s largest e-commerce company to leading the invention of Google Hangouts. Chee's leadership in building outstanding products, teams and companies will be a great addition to the Twilio executive team.”
