Sparkle opens new PoP on the Mexican border

Sparkle has expanded its US network to a data centre on the US/Mexican border.

The new point of presence (PoP) is at McAllen, Texas, at the McAllen Data Center (MDC), on Sparkle’s Seabone IP transit service. MDC is about 10km (six miles) north of the Rio Grande, which marks the US border with Mexico.

Sparkle, the international services arm of TIM, said the new PoP “improves even further the performance of Sparkle’s global IP transit service offered to OTTs, ISPs, content and application providers located in central America with lower latency and improved traffic routing capabilities globally”.

TIM added that MDC “has been successful in creating a strategic interconnection hub for networks and content providers along the US border with Mexico, where it has the world’s largest concentration of Mexican networks”. MDC also has data centres on the US/Mexican border in El Paso, New Mexico, and Laredo, Texas.

Sparkle said that other services it will provide at the McAllen PoP include “DDoS attack mitigation services, which grant customers the option to self-protect their network, and virtual NAP solution, which lets customers access the main internet exchange points without the need to build any infrastructure”.
