FiberLight to expand in Virginia and Texas after $10m Logix deal

FiberLight is set to sell part of its Texas network to Logix Fiber Networks and use the money to expand in Virginia and overbuild other parts of its Texas operation.

Logix is spending $10 million on the FiberLight assets, the companies announced at the Metro Connect conference this week in Miami Beach. Logix will gain nearly 400 route miles and over 5,000 miles of fibre in its markets of Dallas, Austin, San Antonio and Houston.

“Ashburn, Virginia, will be a significant investment of us,” FiberLight CEO Don MacNeil told Capacity at the event. “It will take us a year to complete.”

It will also be expanding its network in central and western Texas, focusing on rural areas in order to connect data centres and mobile phone towers. “We’ll use data centres and towers as anchors for markets in education and healthcare in remote parts of Texas,” he added.

Richard Rosmarin, chief strategy and marketing officer for Logix, said the purchase – expanding its reach to hundreds of new commercial buildings and thousands of potential customers – “increases our scale to reach new customers and accelerates our conversion of customers from Tier II circuits to our own fibre assets”.
