Padtec said approval by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is an important step for the Brazilian company’s expansion into the North American market.
“FCC approval opens a relevant door for Padtec’s business growth in North America, a region that has a strong underwater optical transmission market driven primarily by the ever-growing demand for broadband access,” said CEO Manuel Andrade.
The product is part of the LightPad i6400G platform and features optical specifications that allow terrestrial and subsea cables to transmit thousands of kilometres without repetition in Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) optical systems.
The certification shows that the products do not emit electromagnetic waves beyond the limits set by US law. “Success in testing strengthens the quality of Brazilian engineering, showing that it is at the same level as the most advanced in the world’s optical transmission market,” said Andrade.
Earlier in the week at Capacity Europe, Padtec announced a deal to supply its equipment to Google for a new Rio de Janeiro-to-São Paulo cable.
