Windstream expands Little Rock metro fibre network
Advanced network communications provider Windstream has invested in a major expansion of its advanced metro fibre network in Little Rock.
The expansion will connect the area’s enterprise community, through fibre and fixed-wireless infrastructure, directly to other US markets. It will connect them to more local data centres and commercial buildings with Windstream’s 147,000-mile nationwide fibre network and enable them to utilise the enterprise-class data, voice, network and cloud services.
“Windstream is headquartered in Little Rock, and our company’s connection to the city goes back nearly 75 years,” said Tony Thomas, chief executive officer for Windstream. “We’re proud to make this investment in our hometown to help create a new level of connectivity and network stability for all the businesses here, especially the Downtown, Midtown, West Little Rock, North Little Rock, Northshore Business Park, Airport/Port Authority and Conway areas. It also will allow us to offer our customers an expanded product suite and higher levels of service.”
Windstream is expanding local metro fibre networks across the country as part of an initiative that will support customers in verticals such as banking, education and healthcare. Last month, Windstream announced a major expansion of its metro fibre network in Dallas. Other cities being currently expanded, include: Charlotte, Nashville, Richmond, Atlanta, Chicago, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, St. Louis, Detroit and Cleveland.
Little Rock’s Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport, Arkansas’s largest commercial service airport, is among the entities that have benefited directly from Windstream’s expansion.
Ronald F. Mathieu, executive director at Clinton National Airport, added: “Clinton National Airport is a critical resource to our region. More than 3,000 people work at the airport, which generates $1.2 billion in annual economic benefit. We are partnering with Windstream, using their reliable, fibre-fed internet service, to offer the best Wi-Fi connection of any airport in the world.”
