The partnership will give enterprise customers access to transatlantic capacity on AEConnect through Megaport’s global software defined network (SDN). Its customers will be able to use elastic interconnection services to Aqua Comms’ subsea network.
The SDN service will mean enterprise customers can provision services including direct cloud connections and Point to Point transport between Europe and the US.
"Megaport enables enterprises to utilise Aqua Comms' subsea capacity in a way that they haven't been able to before," said Denver Maddux, CEO of Megaport. "Enterprises can now directly connect to public cloud providers outside of their own region, on-demand.
“As a leading provider of transatlantic bandwidth, Aqua Comms is the perfect partner to bring new service offerings to our mutual customers and ties in nicely with our market launch in Europe. It's so great to be working with such an excellent group of people that provide critical connectivity services."
It is the latest partnership for Aqua Comms, which lit AEConnect in January and has since announced agreements with a number of partners including CenturyLink and PCCW. It also won a Global Carrier Award for best subsea innovation at Capacity Europe last week.
Aqua Comms recently underwent a management reshuffle, appointing Nigel Bayliff as CEO. He took over from Greg Varisco, who had been in place on an interim basis.
Of the partnership with Megaport, Bayliff said: “"We're excited to partner with Megaport and enable its enterprise customers to rapidly connect their network to other services and data centres across the world via elastic interconnection to AEConnect.
"We're confident that this initial pact is a precursor to many successful alliances between our companies in the near future."
