iiNet founder appointed to NBN board

Michael Malone, founder and former CEO of iiNet, has joined the board of Australia’s National Broadband Network (NBN) board.

Malone’s appointment comes after Simon Hackett, Internode co-founder, resigned to focus on his own company, Redflow Limited, where he is an executive chairman.

“I look forward to Michael bringing new perspectives to the board table, keeping NBN focused upon our customers, valuing innovation, and successfully completing the network build,” said Ziggy Switkowski, NBN chairman, said in a statement.

On leaving, Hackett said in a statement: “It is with a sense of regret that I must bid farewell to the NBN team and to my colleagues at the NBN board. I will greatly miss the experience of being in the midst of something very pivotal in a space I care so much about.”

Malone founded iiNet in October 1993 and was CEO until March 2014. He also built cybersecurity firm, Diamond Cyber, and served on multiple boards.
