Manitoba Telecom Services’ CEO retires

Pierre Blouin, chief executive at Manitoba Telecom Services (MTS) is planning to retire from his post later this year.

Blouin has held his post at the Canadian regional telecoms company for over a decade and worked at Canadian telecoms company BCE Inc for over 20 years before moving to MTS.

Blouin will remain at the company until a successor is found, and MTS has already began to search for a successor in advance of his retirement date.

The outgoing CEO was seen as integral in the company’s deal to sell off fibre optic network player Allstream to Egyptian tycoon Naguib Sawiris for approximately $475 million.

The deal was however blocked by Canadian regulators due to security concerns, and setback MTS’ strategy towards establishing itself as a pure play regional player.

Speculation in the market suggested it could be sold to a larger national operator like TELUS if it divested its assets.
