América Móvil is changing the name of its US offshoot from Telmex USA to Claro Enterprise Solutions to mark an expansion into new services and solutions.

The renamed subsidiary will focus on enterprise solutions geared to businesses of all sizes, from small companies to large multinationals, said América Móvil, which is controlled by Carlos Slim, one of the world’s richest people.

"Claro Enterprise Solutions plays a key role in América Móvil’s global enterprise strategy and will leverage the expertise of América Móvil to bring customer-driven solutions and services to existing and new markets," said América Móvil CEO Daniel Hajj, who is Slim’s son-in-law.

Claro is the brand that América Móvil uses for its networks across Latin America, including Argentina, Brazil and Chile.

The company said that the expansion will increase Claro’s global footprint and reflect América Móvil’s broad commitment to drive innovations and bring them to market through integrated communication and information technology services.

According to its existing website, Telmex USA has been relatively inactive. It launched a unified communications service in May 2016 and an international Carrier Ethernet service in September 2016, but has made no announcements since then.

Former AT&T executive Jorge Rodríguez will transfer from his role as CEO of Telmex USA to CEO of Claro Enterprise Solutions. He said: "We are very excited about the enhanced customer experience that Claro Enterprise Solutions brings to the telecommunications and technology marketplace."

He added that customers would "benefit from a seamless and robust integration of América Móvil’s global network, operations and service delivery across the Americas and Europe".

The company is based in Miramar, Florida, close to Miami Beach.
