French operator SFR has completed what it claims to be the first LTE-Advanced trial in France, in the city of Marseille. The trial was carried out at Efixo, one of SFR’s R&D labs, and the company said it achieved download speeds of 174Mbps on the 800MHz and 2600MHz spectrum bands. [read more]


 

PCCW Global has signed an international IP VPN Network-to-Network interconnection (NNI) partnership with PLDT Alpha Enterprise. The agreement means both companies will jointly provide IP VPN services to customers all over the world, and enable network collaboration. [read more]


 

Belgian cable operator Telenet has deployed Alcatel-Lucent’s IP core router, in a bid to address the growing demand for video and data services in the country. Alcatel-Lucent’s 7950 XRS IP core router, claimed to be one of the most powerful in the world, is designed to provide up to five times the capacity of its rivals, allowing Telenet to meet the demand of high-bandwidth applications. Pacnet plans to launch data centre network services in Chongqing, China, after securing an Internet Data Center (IDC) licence from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). The carrier becomes the first foreign-invested company to have been issued an IDC license in the Chinese region. [read more


 

Seaborn Networks has selected Sunesys to provide a fibre backhaul network connecting its US landing station to CoreSite and Equinix facilities in New Jersey. The dark fibre and lit network services provider is scheduled to complete the 8,900 mile route by the end of this year. [read more]


 

BICS and Angolan mobile operator Unitel have facilitated what BICS claims to be its first 4G video roaming call in Africa, in the presence of European royalty. UK-based SSE Telecoms has selected Alcatel-Lucent’s IP networking technology to extend its network coverage across the country. The partnership forms part of SSE’s Project Edge programme, designed to increase network coverage across the UK, deliver greater service differentiation and lower costs via network redesign and rationalisation. US-based security solution provider Nominum has launched its Vantio ThreatAvert system, designed to prevent threats in fixed and mobile networks. Vantio ThreatAvert facilitates Nominum’s Global Intelligence Xchange (GIX), a foundational security platform with real-time threat updates, which, Norminum believes, delivers far greater security than a DNS firewall as it neutralises internal threats.
