Three UK and Ireland has appointed a new chief commercial officer to drive closer collaboration between customer and marketing teams and drive growth in the operator’s 5G spectrum portfolio.

Elaine Carey, who previously worked for Three Ireland, is credited with spearheading “all of the business’ consumer commercial activities” over the last 13 years, including the products portfolio, retail, ecommerce and all digital and brand activities along with the management of Three Ireland’s extensive sponsorship portfolio.

She sat on the team that completed the acquisition and integration of O2 in Ireland and prior to Three held senior roles at Eircom and Digicel.

Carey, who started the new role in March, will now lead the customer and marketing teams, an approach Three hopes will “drive closer collaboration both between the two functions as well as with Three Ireland”.

Three said Carey’s brief would also include work “to drive growth in Three by maximising the platform of the UK’s largest 5G spectrum portfolio and fully leveraging our £2bn investment in our IT and network”.

Three launched 5G services in August 2019 with a home broadband product before rolling out its mobile service in February. Three’s investment in its network also includes massive enhancements to its 4G network through the deployment of new technology and additional spectrum.

Robert Finnegan, CEO of Three UK and Ireland said: “I am delighted that Elaine is taking on the role across both our UK and Irish businesses. Elaine’s commercial acumen and drive for results will ensure both organisations benefit from her leadership. Her depth of experience as well as her extensive sector knowledge will be invaluable as we take Three Ireland and Three UK forward.”

Carey added: “The next few years represent a huge opportunity to grow our UK business, so I am delighted to be taking on the challenge. It’s more important than ever that we stay close to our customers, creating campaigns that resonate and show the value of Three in our day to day lives. I’m looking forward to bringing Three UK’s customer and marketing teams closer together, using insight and intelligence to develop propositions and campaigns that will really matter for our customers.”
