Former Orange CEO to become Millicom board director

Following Orange’s acquisition of Jazztel, Fernández stepped down from his executive positions at both companies, having been there from 2006 to 2015. The official appointment is expected to take place at the annual general meeting on May 17.

“José Miguel García Fernández will bring relevant experience as an entrepreneurial CEO within the telecommunications and cable sectors,” said Lorenzo Grabau, chairman of Millicom’s nomination committee.

“His international background will also further broaden the board’s understanding of the dynamics of the markets in which Millicom operates.”

Fernández had held various managerial roles within Cable & Wireless, including CEO of Panama and UK & Ireland.

The Millicom nomination committee also proposed the election of Janet Davidson, Simon Duffy and Tom Boardman, as board directors, the latter as chairman. It has also proposed the re-election of Odilon Almeida, Tomas Eliasson, Lorenzo Grabau and Alejandro Santo Domingo.
