Sprint signs direct roaming deal with Cuba
03 November 2015 |
Sprint has signed a direct roaming agreement with Telecommunications Company of Cuba (ETECSA), becoming the first US mobile operator to do so.
The deal was signed by Marcelo Claure, Sprint’s CEO, and Hilda Arias, mobile services director of ETECSA, at Havana’s International Fair, the country’s annual trade expo.
“As the commercial relationship between the US and Cuba continues to progress, it is expected that the number of travellers to Cuba will increase exponentially,” said Claure. “We want to make sure any Sprint customer traveling to Cuba can use their phone the same way as they do in the United States.”
Sprint has also signed a direct long-distance interconnection agreement with ETECSA.
Over 3 million people across the world are expected to visit Cuba this year and within 10 years, that number is expected to grow to more than 5 million, according to the operator.
