Level 3 opens EMEA security centre in London

Level 3 Communications has announced the official opening of its EMEA security operations centre in a bid to focus on its security offerings for the region's enterprises.
The company plans to enhance its managed security portfolio for enterprises in the face of increasing cyber threats.
“Today signals a continuation of our investment on this region to bring a global set of comprehensive solutions that our enterprise customers, particularly in the C-level suite, are focussed on, which are growth, efficiency and security,” Andrew Crouch, regional president of EMEA and global accounts management division at Level 3 told media and analysts.
According to the company, businesses are becoming increasingly dependent on their internet service providers to provide dependent security services to protect their networks against consistent and increasing threats.
“As our business has grown, we’ve become an even bigger player in the internet,” explained Jack Waters, chief technology officer at Level 3. “We’ve built up a security capability internally just to protect the public-facing infrastructure and our own routers and switches.”
Over the last 12 years, the company has grown its security capabilities and produced software that have been able to detect threats.
“In the last three to four years, we’ve really turned that capability towards our products and services. We also thought it was important as the trend becomes clearer that more businesses are moving to the internet and the cloud,” said Waters, adding that customers are increasingly moving their billing and Salesforce.com platforms to the cloud.
The company launched a security operations centre in the US earlier this year as well as a denial of service (DDos) mitigation offering last year. In July 2015, It acquired DDoS mitigation company Black Lotus in June 2015.
"Given our position in the internet and our ability to see a wide variety and volume of traffic on the internet, we are able to identify and mitigate threats faster and mitigate that threat faster than others," claimed Waters.
"As more and more enterprises move to the public infrastructure, we think that position will be important in the industry."
