Arc Solutions and Israeli internet service provider (ISP) Bezeq International have signed an agreement to connect the UAE and Bahrain directly to Israel.

This partnership comes following the normalisation agreement signed by Israel and the UAE in August 2020.

Bezeq is one of Israel’s leading ISPs and is the first Israeli company to own a submarine cable system connecting the country to Europe.

Arc itself is a joint venture between UAE’s du and Bahrain’s Batelco.

Capacity Media recently caught up with Mahesh Jaishankar, CEO of Arc to discuss the landmark partnership.

“The increasing cooperation between the United Arab Emirates and Israel means that there's a lot more business opportunities,” Jaishankar said.

With more start-ups per capita than any other country, Israel is a key market in the Middle East and Jaishankar affirms that Israel is an integral market for Arc going forward.

“More enterprises are looking for connectivity in the region and that's where we come in and want to facilitate that.”

Jaishankar added: “We are excited to offer this route to customers and enable them to diversify how they connect across the region.

"Bezeq International is a great partner, and it is great to be working with the team in Israel on this landmark initiative.”

The companies will jointly create the lowest latency route between regional hubs in UAE, Bahrain and Israel.

The partnership will see the firms combining network footprints and enabling their partners and customers to access “a rich portfolio of destinations and services”.

Ron Glav, vice president of the business division and global alliances at Bezeq International added: "The Israel–United Arab Emirates agreement has just found us ready to supply, taking advantage of Israel's unique geographic position as a hub connecting between Europe, Asia and Africa and new Middle Eastern markets.

“Together, we are providing the foundation for both Bezeq International and Arc customers to extend their reach, expand their portfolio and access new opportunities in key markets across the Middle East.”

The full interview with Mahesh Jaishankar is available in the next issue of Capacity Magazine.
