Manon Brouillette, the former CEO of Canadian cable and telecoms company Vidéotron, is the new CEO of Verizon’s Consumer Group, replacing Ronan Dunne.

Dunne, who has been with Verizon for five years after joining from Telefónica UK, will be a strategic advisor to group CEO Hans Vestberg.

Brouillette (pictured) and Dunne assume their new positions on 1 January 2022, said Verizon. Brouillette joined the group as deputy CEO in June 2021.

Dunne said in a post: “I am excited for my next chapter as [group chairman and CEO] Hans Vestberg’s strategic advisor during this transformative time for our industry and serving as a board representative for Yahoo.”

The move means that at least four of Verizon’s senior leaders are from outside the US: Vestberg from Sweden, where he was CEO of Ericsson until he was fired, Dunne from Ireland, and Brouillette from Canada. Chief strategy officer Rima Qureshi, also a former Ericsson executive, is Canadian

Vestberg said about the new appointment: “Manon brings a wealth of global expertise in consumer initiatives to Verizon, having scaled major brands with sustainable growth and exceptional customer-first experiences.”

Verizon noted that, under her leadership, Vidéotron evolved into Canada’s fastest-growing carrier and was rated the most-admired telecom for more than ten years in a row. Brouillette was also on the board of directors for Altice USA, the combination of a number of cable operations brought together by Patrick Drahi.

She said about her Verizon appointment: “In the two-plus decades that I have spent as a leader in this industry, there has never been a more transformative time. While we have long dreamed of the power and promise of a 5G-connected world, that vision is fast becoming our reality.”

Vestberg said about Dunne: “Ronan made an incredible mark on our company. He led teams to new heights in customer centricity and value, spearheading strategic acquisitions as well as entirely new ways of working for and with the customer, all while providing value and inking innovative partner relationships that have transformed the industry.”

He will be Verizon’s representative on the Yahoo board, following Apollo’s acquisition of the operation – formerly Verizon Media – from Verizon, in a deal completed in September 2021.

Vestberg said: “We look forward to [Dunne’s] continued support as my strategic advisor and our board representative for Yahoo.”
